I enjoyed this story.
I really enjoyed this story.
Murder mystery wrapped up in fighting addiction. The writing sounded authentic without being
off-putting. The story is told in
between flashbacks that fill out the story nicely and make you want to read
just one more page. If you’re going to get hooked on something, I
don’t think this book is the worst addiction in the world.

Freak of Nature
Donate your body to science.
Check. Become a cyborg.
Check. Hide the fact that you still
retain your humanity. Check. Fall in
love with the nerdy guy who watches over you who just happens to secretly work
out in his free time so he’s actually hot.
Check. Get tired of being an
experiment and go on the lam. Check.
Tell the entire story in a sarcastic checklist to point out that it
could have been good if it hadn’t been so formulaic. Check.
My favorite book of 2013
Ready for it? It's Red Rising by Pierce Brown. It has all the makings of being a series that I loathe and adore. Loathe because I have to wait for the next installment, adore because the storyline is wonderfully original and well-planned. I thoroughly enjoyed the mash-up of mythology, medieval battlegrounds, and futuristic components. A great start to a series that deserves a good, long look. By far, the best book I've read this year. You just need to agree with me and read it.
